Snowfall in the States, Ashfall in Riobamba

Admittedly, this doesn’t compare to the tons of snow parts of the U.S. has been receiving.

The futility of car washing . . .

The futility of car washing . . .

However, with all the talk of blizzards and snow and such, I thought you all might like to get a look at what we get to wake up with most mornings.  Unlike snow, it doesn’t melt and is so fine that it makes its way into any opening in the house.  You should see our windowsills in the morning.

Fine little grains that end up everywhere . . .

Fine little grains that get into everything . . . including lungs. Bleah!

This ashfall so far has been light, but our friends tell us that during Tungurahua’s last major eruption a few years ago, things were quite different.  There were several inches all over the city.  People had to get it off their roofs quickly as it turns into something like cement if it gets wet.  Must’ve been a pain.  If it’s going to continue falling, hopefully it will keep falling like it is now, very lightly.

Posts for the next week may be somewhat spotty as we’ll be traveling.

 Until the next post,

Mike
